Our art, intellectual property, and nonprofit law practice protects iconic symbols, creative works, and organizations that stand for farmworker justice, racial justice, LGBTQ rights, and cultural equity.
“Cultural Justice Attorney” is a term coined to make people wonder: “What’s Cultural Justice?” Cultural Justice recognizes, celebrates, and elevates cultural diversity and eschews the “melting pot”. Cultural justice embodies an understanding of justice that requires that things are just and right and not merely legal.
It’s about using law to create equity for brown and black lives and workers, in pay, in the recognition and value of these now majority cultures, and a lifelong fight against white supremacy. It’s about using intellectual property laws written for giant entertainment companies to protect grass roots culture holders and makers.
By elevating and protecting cultural districts and the symbols of civil rights and social justice activism – such as the UFW’s Aztec Eagle, the slogan SI SE PUEDE, the Black Panther of the Black Panther Party, and Dykes on Bikes — along with the art, writings, film, and murals that transmit cultural identity, we fight the suppression and devaluation of Latinx, Black, Asian, and LGBTQ cultural beliefs, values, and practices.
Cultural justice also celebrates counter-cultures like Burning Man, motorcycle culture, anime otaku fandom, and LGBTQ communities.
